| Cory M. Coons |
| biography |
" Hailing from the small town of South Mountain Ontario, Canada, Cory Mervin Coons has been writing, recording and playing music for over 15 years. From the time he was just a young boy growing up right next to his grandparents farm and listening to his mother's old lp's and 45's, Cory has always been passionate about music. His influences range from early rock n' roll, folk, and popular artists like The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, and in later years John Mellencamp, Styx, Bon Jovi, Neil Young and Keith Urban.
Throughout the late 80's in his high school days, Cory played in many local rock bands. During the 90's he spent some time with the touring cover act Heads or Tales based out of Ottawa and Cornwall Ontario, as they toured throughout Ontario and played many of the local clubs on the circuit for the better part of 1991/92. For the years' 1995 through 97', Cory was a part of the band Shake the Tree who also did the club circuit in and around Cornwall and Montreal with their eclectic and classic rock sound.
Moving on to 1998, Cory also spent some time touring in Canada and the southern United States, finding some exciting success with the Retro touring act U.S. Then in 1999, Cory recorded his first full length cd with the band Tycoons, and has enjoyed performing live for audiences all across Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and New York State. He has also opened for the likes of such artists as April Wine and David Wilcox.
Cory's many accomplishments also include having his musical interlude Round' The World from the the Tycoons cd, used as a background soundtrack for world leading Canadian technology company Ross Video, on a promotional video for their new Synergy and Multi- Definition digital production switchers at the "NAB 04" Electronic Media Show held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With the release of From The Ground Up, Cory M. Coons put forth a strong collection of songs reflecting his past, present, and the future! His first single release to Canadian radio titled Crumbs has been aired on several stations including College and University stations in Ontario, as well as several internet radio stations throughout the "Live 365" network. A second single was released in January of 2006', across Canada. He has also opened for Canadian Country Rockers Prairie Oyster, and was the opening act once again for April Wine at the 2005 South Mountain Fair.
Another of Cory's accomplishments is having his song Crumbs used in conjunction with a Women's health and lifestyle website www.Alesse.com, through the Anderson DDB Health and Lifestyle company. There is also a compilation cd including all the artists who currently have music on this site.
Update Dec 5th/06':
A new cd of Cory's best all-acoustic material is now available on his website in 2007. Containing 10 tracks of original acoustic, rootsy folk rock songs, the new cd is aptly titled Acoustified. As well, a new promotional deal has just been announced between BenTMusic in Toronto and Philips Electronics, for the use of one Cory M. Coons track on Philips' new media devices for 2007. These devices include, mp3 players, portable media centre products and other media products which are distributed under Philips' or a third party's brand name. The track that has been chosen to appear is Crumbs. This deal will allow Cory's music to be loaded on the players and put it into the hands of millions of targeted customers.
And now in January of 2007', Cory's music is also being featured on Coca Cola's Fresh Tracks Music website, and is also being released on the Sky Music Series compilation cd that will be released to 300 American Airport stores across the USA where about 100 million people shop every 4 weeks!
In closing, we can see what sets Cory apart from alot of other artists, is a down home honesty and realness about his music that touches home. With hard-hitting soulful melodies, and strong catchy rhythms, Cory M. Coons surely is an up and coming artist to watch for!" |
