"Mélodie en sous-sol's the guitar player and programmer Patrick Mattarelli, was born near Zurich, Switzerland, in 1973. At five years old he started playing violin. At 17 he bought his first electric guitar - a Fender Stratocaster.
At his high school, there were only classical guitar teachers however he did discover the Spanish Flamenco style of playing, with that, he switched to the classic guitar. Today, he still plays his Manuel Rodriguéz Model D he bought at 19 from Bruno Jundt, a Swiss/Italian Flamenco guitar player who taught him the basics of Flamenco techniques and compàses (patterns).
Patrick moved to Italy in 2002, his second home country, where he made his first recording experiences, together with some friends.
In 2003 Patrick began to work with guitar player and producer Tommy Vetterli in the state-of-the-art recording studio New Sound in Switzerland, where Tommy taught him recording basics and learn about high end studio gear.
This short period of professional studio experience was a decisive step forward in Patrick's music career, and the privilege of working with Tommy Vetterli gave him many technical advantages.
Patrick's temporary stay abroad in Morocco expanded his musical experience even more. In 2007 in Morocco, together with Jamal Louatani, a moroccan guitarist and percussionist, Patrick implementing West African rhythms in his compositions creating the studio project Mélodie en sous-sol.
Mélodie en sous-sol was meant as a common musical exercise in the beginning, however once back to Italy, Patrick continued re-mixing old tracks as well as composing new ones, maintaining the original styles (a mixture of Jazz drums, a deep clean Telecaster sound and African rhythms) together with Spanish guitar patterns, together forming sweet downtempo music.
Mélodie en sous-sol's is still a 100% studio project. Patrick uses gear from Brauner, Rupert Neve, Fender and more, and after years of experience and essays he has brought together all his technical know-how and musical skills into this venture." |
